Queer Youth Theater Project

Our Vision: By 2018, Mukti Fund will have established and supported a vibrant national network of Queer Youth Theaters empowering these youth to fulfill their full potential.

Queer Youth Theater Fund, Annual Grants

The Queer Youth Theater Fund, established in 2009, annually makes grants to QYT organizations in the United States and Canada. Funds support projects or general operations of QYT programs that enhance the Mukti Fund vision of empowering queer youth by their writing, directing, or acting in performance pieces. Annual grants of up to $15,000 may be awarded, and may include a challenge grant component. Two-year grants will be considered with the second-year payment requiring a satisfactory end of first-year grant report. Deadline for our receipt of proposal is Wednesday March 28th, 2012. See RFP for application information. Contact Martin Dupuis of Mukti Fund (mdupuismukti@gmail.com) for additional information.

Queer Youth Theater Network and Support Fund

Funds are available for proposals which further a national network of Queer Youth Theaters, including the following programs:

QYT Directors Conference – An annual conference started in 2010 is open to QYT directors, who have previously received a Mukti Fund QYTF grant, to provide an opportunity to exchange ideas, best practices and network. Grant application for the annual Conference Grant is limited to the Theater hosting the event (in conjunction with the planning committee) and must be submitted at least seven months in advance of the conference. (A limited number of spaces funded from the Incubator Fund may be available for new potential QYT directors to meet current directors.) A grant check will be mailed at least 45 days in advance of the conference.

Establishment and maintenance of a QYT website

QYT Network – Annual grants for expenses and staffing for a network are available. The grant application is to be submitted by the Theater hosting such Network, which operation will be in consultation with members of the Network.

Please contact Mukti Fund (madively@aol.com) for an application or to discuss possible grants. All applications must be sponsored by a 501(c)3 organization that demonstrates collaboration with the network of QYF Theaters.

Queer Youth Theater Incubator Fund

The QYF Incubator Fund was established to expand the national outreach of QYTs, particularly in underserved areas.

Grants will be made to assist potential theater directors to attend the annual QYT Directors Conference. Individuals who have an interest in establishing a QYT in their area are eligible to apply. A limited number of grants are available and will cover transportation, food, and housing. Applications are due by April 1, 2012.

Grants are available to enable current QYT directors to travel to and mentor new QYTs. Grants are limited to those directors who have attended a QYT annual conference. Grants will be paid to that director’s QYT.

Start up grants of up to $2,500 are available to new QYTs. Initial year proposals need to show significant in-kind contributions. Preference may be given to those who have attended the QYT annual conference.
